I definitely feel Papia's pain. Computers are incredible frustrating. There have been many times where I just click something and my whole system goes crazy. It is scary that so much destruction can be done in just one click. I agree with what he is saying. What if someone ends up on a military database and accidentally clicks something that could send missiles off around the world. Its still discomforting knowing that people can hack into systems. It's relevant to our 4th project because our 4th project is technology based. One click can destroy it if not backed up properly.

November 1st blog post

One thing that I took from chapter 5 is the importance of having someone else read your paper. They have a completely fresh perspective of your topic and they will most likely be able to tell you straight up how it is. If they read it aloud, you get to hear what your paper actually sounds like. From experience, one would be surprised how different it sounds.

Chapter 4 Blogpost

One thing I learned from the chapter is to refrain from saying "I". If you keep saying things like "I think" or "I feel" it makes the paper sound a lot more informal and unprofessional. This is very critical to our 3rd paper because our opinion is essentially irrelevant when it comes to our topic. If we were writing in argumentative paper, using "I" would weaken the argument you are trying to prove. You have to be assertive and confident in what you are preaching.

October 18th Blog Post

What I learned about chapter 3 is how important it is to not plagiarize. If you use someone else's work you absolutely have to cite it. It is so important that you can even be kicked out of the university because it is considered academic dishonesty. I also learned that it is useful to use different phrases in searching a topic. Switching up the way you type something into Google may give you different sources.

October 11 Blogpost

One thing that I will take from chapter 2 is that I'm going to use a variety of sources. Ballenger made it clear that you should not stick to one specific source; like the internet. Hopefully I will be able to obtain books and journals that will give me information on my research topic. Even though the Internet is the easiest source to use, some of the information is unreliable. Books provide you with more in depth information.

I found Steve Jobs' commencement speech to be very inspirational. It was also very erie because he alluded to his Cancer and how it was cured. I most likely will re watch it. It made me think about how important it is to do what you want to do no matter what. A lot of people do things for the money, but it is much more important to do what makes you truly happy.

Racism

I found the e-mail to be disappointing. We as a country have come so far over the past 100 years and it is ridiculous that some people still feel the same way about African Americans. As disturbing as it is, it also is not surprising. Some people just like to be different. Some people just like to cause a commotion. They absolutely should be punished for what they wrote.

I really liked the analogy that the author made. He compared the internet to a diary. I have mixed feelings about what his point is. He makes the point that there is too much information on the internet that no one cares about. I agree with that to an extent. Yes there is a lot of dumb stuff online, but that's the beauty of the internet. It allows every person to have a voice. It my be stupid to some people, but others may enjoy it. It is very easy to just navigate to another site.

9/22 Blog Post

In her CV she mentions that public health is mored focused on policy and practice, not professionalism. In the intro of the Article, she states there is no patient-physician relationship. They sort of talk about the same thing. In her CV she puts her education first, which obviously she feels is the most important. She put ethics before philosophy, so she also must feel more strongly about ethics.

An argument is when there are two distinct different viewpoints and you are trying to prove one is correct. Persuasion is when you are actually trying to change someone's way of thinking.

CV's and Resumes are like arguments because you are trying to prove that you are the best candidate for a position. You are showing the interviewer that you are better than the others.

The format that Italians use is quite similar to the American format. There is more emphasis is on hobbies on Italian resumes, also you should only put in a picture if demanded. In China, they encourage you to submit a resume in both Chinese and English.

Global Revisions are when you have to change the the structure or organization of the paper.

Local revisions are when smaller changes have to be made, like grammar and placement of ideas.

I felt that this reading was very strange. There were at least 2 paragraphs dedicated to talking about menstruation. It also seemed like a lot of the information kept getting repeated. Multiple paragraphs just reiterated how powerful American Indian women are. I understand that that was the topic of the article, but I just felt I was being told the same thing over and over again. I did agree with a lot of the points though.

Blog Post 9/6

I feel we were assigned to read it because it deals with different types of literacy. Some people consider the slang other races talk in to be improper English, but maybe that is how they were taught how to speak. That is what they are literate in. Some of the examples in the reading could aid with the paper.
