Quickwrite 9/8
My reaction to this piece was that I never understood some hardships and troubles that women of other cultures had to go through. I knew that many women in the past were treated with disrespect, but I never knew that they were "shunned" from certain societies. I learned that the male Indians would stick menstruating women in distant places, because they didn't want to be around them at those times. I also learned of the accomplishments of women from many cultures and that some cultures hold women to high standards. They explained that besides the white christian culture, women aren't looked on as simple or dumb. Many have to go through difficult birthing processes and some handle manual labor. My reaction to the piece reflected my lack of knowledge of how women are looked upon by the various cultures around the world.
About Me
I am Russell Hartley, a freshman that lives in South Hubbard. I chose to come here, because I didn't get into my first choice (University of South Carolina) and this was the next college on my list. My parents graduated from state and my brother currently goes here, so I'm pretty comfortable with the location. I played baseball, football, tennis, and wrestling in high school. I am very involved with music and I spend a lot of time with vocal engineering (turning vocal tracks into actual songs). I've been very religious my whole life and my beliefs reflect the person I am today. I'm currently learning how to play guitar, so let me know if you have any tips.
