I thought that this piece showed the will to learn a language and appreciate it. She mentioned that there wasn't anything that she didn't like about a certain language, because she loved everything about language. Her interest in foreign language was greater than her mother's, therefor, she learned to be more fluent. When you have an interest in something, you tend to succeed more often.

Topic: Music is an anti-depressant that should be considered as strong and/or as powerful as medication.

1. Ad Hominem- I will stay on topic throughout the paper and focus directly on my argument and not so much on the opposition.

2. Stereotyping- I'll stay away from stereotypes and look at the individual and not their culture or appearance.

3. Faulty Sampling- All of the points that I will make will be backed up by legitimate factual representation that supports my argument.

4. Sweeping Generalizations- I will make my points by using words like "most" or "almost always", so I can't be corrected as if I used words such as "all" or "everyone".

5. False Dilemma- I'll explore all the viewpoints and research them to gain a better understanding of the opposing view(s) so I can create a stronger perspective.

6. Post Hoc- Researching the cause-and-effect analysis will help me with writing the points that I will be trying to make and avoiding the mistakes of cause and effect writing.

I think that I gained a better understanding of how people create their opinions and that many viewpoints are built upon personal experiences. "We are not born with opinions but form them through our own mental and emotional lives and our interactions with the lives of others" (Introduction to Argument and Persuasion 1) This is important to this paper because it will help me see the opposing view and understand why someone would formulate that certain opinion. This will help me see both sides and I'll be able to make my view points stronger.

Technology has placed a very important part in my life and has especially grown over the last five years. Computers can obviously be very productive and beneficial, but sometimes I prefer just pen and paper. For research, social networking, and online purchases, I look to computers because I feel as though they make the process easier. When it comes to writing on topics that I have strong opinions or interest in, I like to have a notebook and pen/pencil around at all times. The paper may get lost or ruined, but I don't have to worry about my project "crashing" or accidentally getting deleted. The remix assignment will allow me the option to use many formats to create a project to demonstrate my research paper.

After reading chapter 5, I went through my paper and made sure that I had a clear purpose that stayed on topic throughout the paper. I also added some quick facts that helped support previous statements that I made earlier in the paper. This chapter stressed importance of how to use voice in my writing and I thought that was definitely something to take into consideration. I went back through my sentence structure and looked at length to make sure the paper flowed nicely. The chapter talked about how crucial it is to re-read my sources and make sure that my references followed the APA format. I am glad that I am done this book, since I thought it was pretty boring, but it taught me a few techniques that have enhanced my writing.

Chapter four has been one of the most useful chapters that I have read thus far. Some of my biggest problems in writing a paper is diving right into it. This chapter explained different techniques of how to start a draft and create a high quality thesis statement. Writing a well developed theses has been one of biggest weaknesses in my writing. Other important aspects that I took from this chapter were how to write to my audience and keep them reading past the introduction. This chapter gave me useful tips on how to keep my paper interesting right from the start and I am definitely going to take notes from this passage to help prepare me for the start of my paper.

In chapter three I found that the details about note taking and formatting the middle of my paper were very helpful. The reminders about plagiarism and how to properly cite sources are very important to pay attention to. Learning how to paraphrase and summarize will be a large part of how I write my paper, so it was helpful to read about the best ways to do that. Overall, this chapter gave me very useful reminders about how to format my paper in the best way possible. Although he (Ballenger) gave some opinions that I may not agree with, I found that a lot of his techniques will help me conduct a high quality research paper.

I have learned the differences between primary and secondary sources, and that primary sources are usually more powerful when used, since they come directly from the source. Another helpful suggestion that I took from this chapter is that you can never have too much information. You shouldn't have an overload of facts and information in your paper, but you should be gather as much factual content when you are in your researching stage. Too much is always better than not enough.

I believe that the speech that Steve Jobs gave was very inspiring to say the least. His personal story of how he achieved his success was very interesting, but his views on how someone should live his/her life was very motivational. His views on death were very positive and surprising, considering the fact that he was diagnosed with cancer. Using death as motivation is something that I feel is very important and can relate to. I have always felt that we, as humans, only have one conscious life on this planet, and that we should never take the fact that we have been given the gift of life for advantage. I could relate to some of his viewpoints, because I believe I share similar thoughts on life. I felt more comfortable with being at college after listening to him explain that it isn't a problem that I don't know exactly what I want to do with my life.

I am pretty unaware of the situation in terms of specifics, so I cannot give a real detailed analysis of the incident. I feel that freedom of speech should always be protected, but when words escalate into intimidation and probable crisis, then matters should be taken more seriously. Discrimination reflects the character of the one who is portraying it, so they should be the individual judged and punished. Punishment could be the simple act of the negative reflection on one's character, but if words can cause to turn into harmful actions then legal steps should probably be taken.

Useful: I found that the idea of implementing stories into factual research papers would be a good idea. Many people believe that papers that contain many facts can be very boring to read, so stories that relate to the topic can be useful to develop interesting research papers. It may be a little difficult to stray away from personal opinions, but i believe giving interesting examples and stories can be very productive.

Problematic: I thought that the idea of writing for awhile without stopping could be very difficult to do. I usually think while I write, but if I wrote constantly without stopping, then I feel that it would be very easy to get off topic. This strategy can have its advantages, but I feel as though it may take practice or may be something that just comes natural to the particular writer.

The last two paragraphs stressed the importance of usage of the web. The author explained that the internet is used for many unnecessary purposes and society needs to take advantage of the useful information that can be found by a click of the mouse. The web has so much potential to educate the minds of the youth among our globe, but too many people use it only for entertainment. The educational opportunities that fill the web are endless and should be used to better our knowledge on worldwide issues.

-We believe that death may be a subject that can be difficult to explain in words, since everyone that is alive is distant from the actual feelings of the matter.

-During an interview you may find that you struggle with using the “right” words when talking to the employer.

-In language classes you have to give an oral exam and that can be frustrated if you are foreign to the language.

Reaction

-We thought that it was interesting that he taught himself the American language and usage of proper grammar/punctuation. He used the dictionary as a teacher and became intrigued with learning the words and definitions of modern English. He described the dictionary as a "mini-encyclopedia," since it gives information in the definitions.

Her area of expertise reflected her previous work and personal interests in reform of public health. Her listed course work also indicates that she has experience in the areas of public health and philosophy. Overall her viewpoints and CV went hand-in-hand, and held very strong connections between each other.

1. An argument can be something that is used to make a point or to convince readers, where as persuasion is mostly used to take a side or influence someone's decision or action. Persuasion is usually seen when someone is defending his or her view point.

2. A resume may be used as an argument to convince (in most cases) the employer to believe in what an individual is saying about him or herself. Arguments aren't always used to defend or attack a certain position, but may be engineered to make convincing points.
