Quickpost 9/6
My general reaction to this piece was that this woman was looking to deep into their made up culture and is trying to redesign our language to focus more on AAL rather than sticking to the correct and strict language of DAE. I hope that we don't read more about this because I find it full of crap. I disagree with naming slang and accepting it as apart of American language. Im not racist but have you ever tried to listen to an African American conversation? They are difficult to understand because their verbs, pronouns, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs don't match up. We have a strict language with great linguistics so that we can effectively communicate. Accepting a language thats crossbred between English and African is only going to make things more complicated. This slang is not like knowing and understanding another language such as Spanish. Spanish has their set rules as well which makes it easy to communicate; AAL however is made up on the spot while scientists and linguistic artists try to dissect the mayhem known as black slang.
