My reaction to this piece was kind of a mixed reaction. I thought the differences between the way people interacted was really interesting. For example the way one person said something at South Vista could mean something totally different to another person in America. I never realized how hard it is for someone to adapt to a different language. I really liked how the people of South Vista had their own way of interacting and no matter how different it sounded to us, they understood it. The interview with Carlos was really interesting. He said when people were trying to learn English but they were hanging around with African Americans, they started to talk "slang". This caused them to mix the American language and the African American language together which formed a really interesting new vocabulary. I think that is how the English language is being influenced today. New words come into our vocabulary that may be considered "slang" but it's normal to us. Our way of talking today may be influenced by music, friends, family, etc. I think that this enables everyone to have a unique way of interacting with others and a unique way of writing.
