The piece by Django Paris relates to this course through its identification of different forms of speech literacy. In this story, Django interacted with students such as Miles, who had their own forms of communication within their own ethnic groups. They could understand one another through different forms of speech, that many other people would only refer to as "slang". Since many of these students were well literate in this "slang", it would offend them when students from other cultures would attempt to communicate in their way. Therefore, this article helped to understand the many different forms of literacy among different groups of people within small communities; for instance, within a high school their are many different types of literacy.
