I think we were told to read this piece was because it helped explain how different people's views of a certain type of literacy can be. Some people find things offensive that others are untouched by, and that interests me. I believe you wanted us to see how many different literacies there are and everyone has their own unique form and reactions to various types. It helped broaden the perspective on how many types of literacies exist, not only in just reading and writing but in language and movement as well. It relates to our course because the first paper is about this very topic. It has helped me understand the paper better and be able to understand the discussion better.
I agree that we were told to read this because it shows how each one of our literacies can relate to each others but without being the same literacy. Paris showed how AAL can be used in other ethnic backgrounds and how they all can still relate to each other even with the different ethnicity.
