International language: Music

As I read this, it brought up a few similar experiences in my own life. As a music major, I have interactions with many international students and professors. For example, my high school viola teacher is from Spain. For the first few weeks I had a pretty difficult time understanding him and it was nearly impossible when I started zoning out. After those initial weeks it became much easier to understand. In another, more recent instance, in the viola studio there are only three other people out of about ten that have an American accent. One violist is from Brazil and a few are from Russia as is the professor. It is very interesting hearing them as a dominance over the American English accent.
