QR "Where I come from is like this"

How does this reading relate to you as a human?

This piece was very intresting to me and I could realte to it in many ways, firstly I went to a catholic school where there were many teachers who were very strong about there political views, I know how it feels to be put into that situation where you don't always agree with what others tell you. "Where I come form is like this" the main character is An American-Indiean who attended a catholic school where the teachers put down the natives call them savages. Its hard to feel welcome when you are or what you believe in is being looked down on. Secondly she tells story's of her mother telling her to be a strong indian, this also relates to me because my grandma is always telling me story's about how Polish women are strong and beautiful and to never for get it. I will pass down to my children what has been told to my family in the past. Overall this piece was something I have never read because it was so different to hear her story's of being a American-Indian, this story gave me a broader view of traditions and family life being something other than American.
