Quickwrite 9/8
I was really interested in the traditions described in this piece. The American Indian heritage focuses most of their beliefs on tradition. I thought it was interesting how women were singled out. Women are defined by their tribal identity. Paule Gunn Allen writes about how Indians have a negative image, mostly males, but are balanced out by positive images. For example women are about practicality, strength, reasonableness, intelligence, wit, and competence and their tribes never portray women as mindless, helpless, simple, or oppressed. I loved how her mother taught her who she was based on stories and writing. I liked how she said that "all life is a circle and everything has a place within it." I like that there our still cultures out in the world that focus on tradition because I think it is really cool how things get passed down from generation to generation.
