My general reaction to this piece was that I was surprised. I thought it was going to talk about how women felt inferior to men quite often, but it actually talked more about why women should not. It went into detail describing the ways in which women are powerful and can be equal to or even greater than men. The girl who wrote it kept recalling memories of which her mother was capable of quite a bit which made her think that that is what a woman should and can be. This is not always true though in all societies; some people do believe that women are lesser, but this essay made women look strong and self-reliant and I really liked that.
I definitely agree with your surprising reaction. She would often start her thoughts off with reasons why women felt inferior to men, but then she would switch it around and start going the other way. I enjoyed when she would talk about her mother's stories and prove that women are always just as capable as men. The indian women view is very independent, and I also really liked that.
