Disco enthusiasts had their own thing going on basically. They loved the music, what it represented, and how dance-friendly it was. Rock fanatics on the other hand, hated the messages it presented. They basically were prejudiced against the people who were a part of the disco culture.

Disco music was channeled through dance clubs in the late 70's rather than the radio like other music genres. It never really left the clubs, and it transformed into the house/rap/hip hop music that is constantly played in clubs today. People just couldn't ignore the pulsing, catchy beats of disco that made dancing fun at the clubs. Rap and hip-hop are very similar to disco.
